51 42 018 Replacing speaker trim on rear left or right door trim panel

Necessary preliminary tasks:

Remove MID-RANGE SPEAKER
Remove TWEETER

Removal:

IMPORTANT: Speaker trim is welded to door trim panel only on initial installation.
If necessary, release lock washers instead of welding spots.
Only drill down to door trim panel area so as not to damage the contact surface.

Drill out welding spots (1) on door trim panel with 8 mm dia. welding spot drill bit.

Release and remove speaker cover from latch mechanisms (2).

Remove welding remnants on door trim panel.

Installation:

IMPORTANT: Risk of damage!
During installation the speaker cover must be pressed to the rear of the armrest (1) on the door trim panel (2).
Mask door trim panel (2) with yellow plastic adhesive tape (3) as illustrated.

Firstly insert speaker cover (1) in area (A).

When doing this press speaker cover (1) to rear of armrest (2).

Insert pins in door trim panel according to illustrated sequence (1 to 4).

Speaker cover must be pressed to rear of armrest when doing this.

Afterwards clip in speaker cover on latch mechanisms (5).

Remove yellow plastic adhesive tape.

Secure pins (1) with lock washers (2).

Saw off all pins (1) to dimension (X) (risk of damage of sound insulation).

Dimension (X) = 2 mm

IMPORTANT: Do not clip off pins (1) with diagonal cutting pliers as the pins (1) can be deformed by this and the lock washers (2) can become loose.
To not drop below dimension (X) while sawing off, insert suitable washer and saw off pins (1) above washer.
