41 14 511 Replacing Complete Rear Left Wheel Arch (Rear Left Side Wall Removed)

WARNING: The following points must be strictly observed prior to starting work  :

Read contents of BODY .

Spot-weld bonding is used on this vehicle. Observe specific procedure. See SPOT-WELD BONDING STEEL COMPONENTS  and OPENING ADHESIVE BONDS .

Remove or cover those vehicle components in the repair area which are susceptible to heat or dust.

Use only approved SPOT-WELDING APPARATUS  for repairs.

Place vehicle on straightening bench.

Following new body parts are required (refer to ELECTRONIC PARTS CATALOGUE ):

Removing the wheel arch:

Roughly cut C-pillar reinforcement along line (1).

Open welded connections in areas (2).

Remove sheet section.

Installation note: 

Replace both CAVITY SEALING  (3).

Open welded connections in area (1).

Mark severance cut (1) in accordance with specified dimension and cut.

IMPORTANT: Cut outer panel only.

Dimension a = 20 mm

Open welded connections in area (2).

Roughly cut rear wheel arch along line (1).

Open welded connections in areas (1).

Roughly cut rear wheel arch along line (2).

Remove wheel arch section.

Roughly cut mounting for automatic reel unit along line (1).

Roughly cut C-pillar reinforcement along lines (1).

Open welded connections in areas (2).

Remove sheet sections.

Roughly cut wheel arch along line (1).

Open welded connections in area (2).

Mark severance cut (1) in accordance with specified dimension and cut.

IMPORTANT: Cut outer panel only.

Dimension a = approx. 70 mm from roof edge.

Open welding spot joints in areas (2).

Installation note: 

Weld in REINFORCEMENT PLATE  at severance cut.

Remove metal section (3).

Perform only severance cut (1) on new part.

Roughly mark severance cuts (1) and cut.

Open welded connections in areas (2).

Remove sheet section.

Open welded connections in areas (1).

Installation note: 

REPLACE CAVITY SEALING  (2).

Open welded connections in area (1).

Roughly mark severance cuts (2) and cut.

Remove sheet sections.

Roughly cut D-pillar reinforcement along line (1).

Open welded connections in areas (2).

Remove remaining parts of wheel arch.

Installation note: 

Apply window glass adhesive to CAVITY SEALING  (3).

Preparation of new part: 

Mark new part (wheel arch outer half) in accordance with severance cut on vehicle + 20 mm extra material and cut (1).

Weld new part in area (2) overlapping.

Open weld joints in area (1) and remove bulkhead plate.

Mark severance cut (2) in accordance with body and cut.

Installing the wheel arch: 

Adjust new components in conjunction with side wall to fit with straightening attachment or universal mount.

Welding new parts.

Weld new components in areas (1) additionally.
