41 11 015 Replacing Left Engine Support With Wheel Arch

WARNING: The following points must be strictly observed prior to starting work  :

Read contents of BODY .

Steel-aluminium composite construction is used on the vehicle.

Observe specific PROCEDURE .

Remove or cover those vehicle components in the repair area which are susceptible to heat or dust.

Use only APPROVED SPOT-WELDING APPARATUS  for repairs.

Place vehicle on straightening bench.

Following new body parts are required (refer to ELECTRONIC PARTS CATALOGUE ):

Removal of engine support with wheel arch: 

Open welded connections in area (1).

Mark severance cut in accordance with measurement a and cut carrier support.

Measurement a=50 mm before 20 mm dia. bore

Open welded connections in area (1).

Installation note: 

Weld in REINFORCEMENT PLATE  at severance cut.

Mark severance cut (1) in accordance with dimension a and cut engine support.

Measurement a=50 mm before 20 mm dia. bore

Open welded connections in area (2).

Installation note: 

Weld in REINFORCEMENT PLATE  at severance cut.

Open welded connections in area (1).

Drill out rivet connections in area (2).

Open ADHESIVE JOINTS  in areas (2) and (3).

Remove engine support with wheel arch.

New part preparation: 

Mark engine carrier in accordance with severance cut on vehicle and cut.

IMPORTANT: Cut outer panel only.
Do not cut through reinforcement (1).

Cut weld joints on both sides in areas (2).

IMPORTANT: To avoid contact corrosion, do not grind the aluminium component in the area of the BONDING SURFACES .

Adjust new parts to fit with alignment bracket or universal mount and secure.

Make 19 bore holes Ø 6.8 mm for BLIND RIVETS N2  (size 815) in area (1).

Make 4 bore holes Ø 6.8 mm for blind rivets N2 (size 815) in area (2).

Remove new wheel arch part again and deburr holes.

Installation of engine support with wheel arch: 

Weld new engine support part.

Clean bonding surfaces in areas (1) to (3) with CLEANING AGENT R1 .

APPLY ADHESIVE K1  to bonding surfaces.

Install new wheel arch part with alignment bracket or universal mount.

Rivet new parts in areas (1) and (2).

Also weld wheel arch support (1) in areas (3).

IMPORTANT: Risk of damage to adhesive strip with wheel arch (2)!
Avoid excessive application of heat.

Weld new components in area (1) additionally.
