51 71 115 Removing and installing / replacing seal on front door, left or right

Necessary preliminary work: 

NOTE: Positioning of the seal must be established in two areas of the front door with positioning aids to be stuck on.
Positioning aids are included with new seals.

Position of seal (1) on front door

Area (A) at distance (F) to door fold.

Area (B) at distance (G) to door fold.

Clean bonding surfaces on paint with adhesive remover.

F = 3.5 mm

G = 4, 8 mm

Position of seal (3) on front door

Align area (C) at line (1) of positioning aids (2) to be stuck on (observe following work steps).

Area (D) at distance (H) to inner door panel.

Area (E) at distance (I) to door fold.

Clean bonding surfaces on paint with adhesive remover.

H = 60, 2 mm

I = 4, 9 mm

Detach prestamped positioning aid from backing.

If necessary, cut out prestamped cut-out for bore hole from positioning aid. Align positioning aid with printed marks (X and Y) and contact edge (2) to front door and press.

Seal must rest on positioning aid (1) during bonding.

X Start of bending radius

Y Recess for door lock

Detach prestamped positioning aid from backing.

If necessary, cut out prestamped cut-out for bore hole from positioning aid. Align positioning aid with printed marks (X and Y) and contact edge (2) to front door and press.

Seal must rest on positioning aid (1) during bonding.

X Start of bending radius

Y Recess for door lock

IMPORTANT:
  • Do not grip bonding surface.
  • It is not the time of the pressure, but rather the level of pressure (approx. 10... 15 N/cm2 ) that is decisive.
  • Separation of seal after pressing destroys the adhesive layer.
NOTE: After being pressed on gently, seal can be pulled off again up to 3 times. Do not dirty bonding surface.

Suspend seal (1) with open lip pointing inwards over door. Pull protection of positioning aid (liner) off seal in sections.

Stick on seal (1) as follows:

Remove positioning aids and assemble rear door.
