Necessary preliminary tasks

- Drain transmission oil at OIL DRAIN PLUG
- Remove TRANSMISSION
Tightening torque 23 00 4AZ .
Unfasten screws.
Remove and convert transmission bearing block.
Tightening torque 22 32 2AZ, see 22 32 TRANSMISSION MOUNTS .
Modify following parts to new transmission:
- Release bearing and release lever. See 21 51 500 REMOVING AND INSTALLING OR REPLACING CLUTCH RELEASE BEARING/LEVER
- Modify cover caps
- Ball pin and spring wire clip
Installation:
Observe GREASING SPECIFICATION .
Add final details to vehicle.
Check transmission oil level.
IMPORTANT:
After completing work:
Failure to comply with this requirement will result in serious damage to the manual transmission.
- Perform adaptation using DIS Tester (BMW scan tool), refer to "Service Functions" in DIS Tester (BMW scan tool) (Teach in transmission)
- Check TRANSMISSION OIL LEVEL
Use only approved transmission fluid. See MANUAL TRANSMISSION - OPERATING FLUIDS .
- Check fluid level in hydraulic system. See 21 53... CHECKING/TOPPING UP FLUID LEVEL IN HYDRAULIC SYSTEM (GS6S37BZ/GS6S53BZ/ SMG)
- Read out fault memory and clear entered faults
Failure to comply with this requirement will result in serious damage to the manual transmission.
