23 00 112 Removing and installing transmission (GS6S53BZ SMG): Installation

Check lubrication of transmission input shaft for sticky consistency. If grease is sticky, replace clutch plate. See 21 21 500 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING CLUTCH (SAC) .

Check clutch plate for friction rust in taper splines and replace if necessary. See 21 21 500 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING CLUTCH (SAC) .

Remove any grease and lining abrasion from taper splines of clutch plate by mechanical means (with a cloth).

Installation:

Greasing specification:

Remove and clean release bearing and release lever. See 21 51 500 REMOVING AND INSTALLING OR REPLACING CLUTCH RELEASE BEARING/LEVER .
Push on grease scraper ring 212240 Ring as far as it will go.
Grease splines (1) of input shaft with a brush. refer to GEAR SHIFT MECHANISM - OPERATING FLUIDS
Detach grease scraper ring.

IMPORTANT: After completing work:

Perform adaptation using DIS Tester (BMW scan tool), refer to Service Functions in DIS Tester (BMW scan tool) (Teach in transmission)
Check TRANSMISSION OIL LEVEL
Use only approved transmission fluid. See MANUAL TRANSMISSION - OPERATING FLUIDS .
Check fluid level in hydraulic system. See 21 53... CHECKING/TOPPING UP FLUID LEVEL IN HYDRAULIC SYSTEM (GS6S37BZ/GS6S53BZ/ SMG)
Read out fault memory and clear entered faults

Failure to comply with this requirement will result in serious damage to the manual transmission.
