12 41 020 Removing and installing/replacing starter (S62)

Switch off ignition.

Follow instructions for disconnecting and connecting battery. Refer to 12 00 ... Instructions for disconnecting and connecting battery .

Remove battery negative lead from battery and cover.

Remove engine underguard at front and rear.

Release nut.

Installation:

Tightening torque, 12 41 4AZ. Refer to ENGINE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM - TIGHTENING TORQUES .

Disconnect battery positive lead from starter motor.

Unfasten plug connection (2) and disconnect.

Release screws.

Tightening torque, 12 41 1AZ. Refer to ENGINE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM - TIGHTENING TORQUES .

Withdraw starter motor from transmission mounting.

Remove starter motor.

Installation:

Check starter pinion for damage.

Check starter ring gear for damage.
