12 31 020 Removing and installing/replacing alternator (S62)

Switch off ignition.

Follow instructions for disconnecting and connecting battery. Refer to 12 00 ... Instructions for disconnecting and connecting battery .

Remove battery negative lead from battery and cover.

Remove alternator drive belt. Refer to 12 31 ... Replacing alternator belt pulley .

Remove cap from deflection roller.

Release screw (1) and remove deflection roller.

Release screws (2) on alternator.

CAUTION: The belt pulley of the power steering pump must not be damaged when the alternator is removed.

Release screws (1).

Remove belt pulley (2) for power steering pump.

Disconnect plug connection (2) on alternator.

Release nut (1).

Installation:

Tightening torque, 12 31 1AZ. Refer to ENGINE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM - TIGHTENING TORQUES .

Remove battery positive lead from alternator.

Remove alternator.

Installation:

Press out bushes on engine support.

Position of bushes after removal
