12 42 550 Replacing battery positive lead between starter, alternator and battery positive terminal (N63)

Necessary preliminary tasks:

Read out fault memory of DME control unit.
Switch off ignition.
Clamp off battery negative lead , see 61 20 900 DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING BATTERY NEGATIVE LEAD .
Remove RIGHT INTERCOOLER .
Remove intake air manifold , see 11 61 068 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING RIGHT INTAKE MANIFOLD (N63) .

Open cover.

Release screw (1).

Tightening torque 12 42 3AZ, see 12 42 WIRES TO STARTER .

Remove battery positive lead (2) from battery positive terminal.

Release clamp (1).

Tightening torque 13 71 8AZ, see 13 71 AIR INTAKE DUCT .

Release clamp (2).

Replace clamp (2).

Remove left charge-air duct (3).

Check gasket on turbocharger, replacing if necessary.

Detach hose (1) from clean-air pipe.

Release screw (2).

Tightening torque 13 71 1AZ, see 13 71 AIR INTAKE DUCT .

Detach clean-air pipe (3) in direction of travel from turbocharger.

Check seal on clean-air pipe, replacing if necessary.

Detach cover (1) and release nut underneath.

Tightening torque 12 42 1AZ, see 12 42 WIRES TO STARTER .

Installation:

Reinstall cover (1) without fail.

Risk of short circuits!

Disconnect battery positive lead (2) from alternator.

Release battery positive lead (1) from retainers (2).

Release battery positive lead (1) from retainer (2).

Release screws (1).

Tightening torque 12 42 7AZ, see 12 42 WIRES TO STARTER .

Release nut (2) on starter.

Tightening torque 12 42 2AZ, see 12 42 WIRES TO STARTER .

Disconnect battery positive lead (3).

NOTE: Add final details to vehicle.
Check stored fault message.
Now clear the fault memory.
