51 16 045 Removing And Installing Or Replacing Retaining Ring On Left Or Right Exterior Mirror

Special Tools Required

00 9 317 TRIM PANEL WEDGE

Necessary preliminary tasks:

Remove housing on exterior mirror .
Remove drive for electrically adjustable exterior mirror. See 67 13 001 REPLACING DRIVE UNIT FOR ELECTRICALLY OPERATED LEFT OR RIGHT DOOR MIRROR (128i) or 67 13 001 REPLACING DRIVE UNIT FOR ELECTRICALLY OPERATED LEFT OR RIGHT DOOR MIRROR (135i) .

Release screws (1) on retaining ring (2).

Starting at bottom, unclip catches (1) all round from retaining ring (2) with special tool 00 9 317 .

Remove retaining ring (2).

Installation:

Catches (1) must not be damaged.

Locators (2) for multitooth catches must not be damaged.
