18 12 046 Replacing front muffler (N52, N52K)

See FRONT AXLE - SPECIAL TOOLS .

WARNING: Scalding hazard!
Only perform these tasks on an engine that has cooled down.

Support front muffler with special tool 31 2 220 .

NOTE: If the cutting line is not marked by a punch mark in the pipe, determine the cutting line by means of the pipe length on the new front muffler.
Carry over cutting line to faulty front silencer (1) and mark out.

Cut exhaust pipe at marked point with special tool 00 2 210 and deburr.

Unscrew nuts.

Installation:

Replace self-locking nuts.

Replace seal.

Tightening torque 18 20 1AZ, see 18 20 EXHAUST SYSTEM SUSPENSION .

Release bolt and remove bracket (1).

Tightening torque 18 20 2AZ, see 18 20 EXHAUST SYSTEM SUSPENSION .

Unfasten screw connection.

Installation:

Tightening torque 18 20 3AZx.18 20 EXHAUST SYSTEM SUSPENSION .

Release screws and remove reinforcement plate (1).

Lower exhaust system and remove.

Tightening torque 51 61 7AZ, see 51 61 REINFORCEMENT, BODY (CONVERTIBLE) .

Installation:

Connect front silencer to rear silencer by means of clamp and align.

Centre clamp and tighten down.

Tightening torque 18 20 8AZ, see 18 20 EXHAUST SYSTEM SUSPENSION .
