51 36 070 Removing and installing / replacing left or right rear side window
Special tools required:
Cover rear side panels with protective covers.
Removal is performed with ROLL OUT 2000 . Only use an oscillating blade when replacing the windscreen.
Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Remove mucket on side window on inside
Version with TV:
- Remove CAPPING IN LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT
- Disconnect PLUG CONNECTION on TV amplifier
- Secure plug and cable to side window with adhesive tape (risk of damage).
- Tape off antenna wires on side window with fabric adhesive tape (risk of damage).
Replacement:
- Remove CAPPING IN LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT
- If necessary, disconnect plug connection on TV amplifier
Tape off body in area of piercing point with fabric adhesive tape (risk of damage).
Push wire starter from ROLL OUT 2000 at line (1) through adhesive bead.
Replacement only:
Fit straight blade with adjustable roller on tool and set dimension (X).
Adjust dimension (X) differently according to different position of adhesive bead, refer to Fig 3.
Sharpen knife blade before every use on a running machine (even with new knife blades).
Tape off side window and body flange all round with fabric adhesive tape (e.g. Tesa).
Replacement only:
Tape off C-pillar trim area in area of rear door.
Adjust blade starting roller differently in areas (A) to (D) (risk of damage).
A = 15 mm
B = 35 ... 40 mm
C= 35 mm
D= 40 mm (use blade without starting roller)
Replacement only:
Use a scalpel (1) (for heavy-duty applications) for the area (B) which cannot be reached with the blade.
Cutting depths for area (B):
B = 35 ... 40 mm
Carefully cut through adhesive bead with scalpel.
During the cutting procedure, a 2nd person must pull the side window with special tool 51 3 010 at rear in outwards direction.
Replacement only:
Secure outside of side window with adhesive tape.
Insert blade carefully between body and side window.
Guide web of blade parallel to side window. Cut through adhesive bead as close to body as possible.
Pay attention to cable on side window (risk of damage).
Remove side window with special tool 51 3 010 .
Fitting 3 dual-lock tapes:
Remove rest of dual-lock tapes (1) and clean bonding area.
Stick new dual-lock tapes (1) on raised body area.
Dual-lock tapes on side window must match these dual-lock tapes.
Dual-lock tapes are absolutely required.
If dual-lock tapes are omitted, the following work step is required.
Dampen down suction faces.
Fit special tool 51 3 010 to tool trolley and secure side window.
Secure special tool 51 3 010 (without joint) to inside of window.

Attach two special tools 51 3 010 to tool trolley. Moisten suction surfaces and secure side window. Also secure special tool 51 3 220 .
When reusing the existing side window, remove residual adhesive to 0.5 mm.
Remove rest of dual-lock tapes (6). Clean bonding area and stick on new dual-lock tapes (6).
Almost vertical part (B) of adhesive bead (1) must face PVC spray coating (5).
Spread adhesive bead (4) with special tool 00 9 322 .
Fit side window underneath with special tool 51 3 010 . Trim strip (1) must be flush at front with body edge (2).
Position side window at top (1).
Close rear door.
Adapt side window if necessary to rear door and snap into dual-lock tapes (if provided).
Fix side window in position with yellow plastic adhesive tape .
If installing without dual-lock tapes, TENSION SIDE WINDOW .
