Removal & Installation

  1. Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS  . Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM  under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM.
  2. For normal rear seat, unclip left and right sides of seat cushion and lift up. Feed seat belt buckles through seat cushion, disconnect seat heater connector, if equipped, then remove seat cushion. Go to step  4 .
  3. For comfort rear seat, unclip and lift out right rear seat cushion. Unclip and lift out left rear seat cushion. Disconnect seat heater and air conditioning connectors. Remove screws from left and right of seat center section, feed seat belt buckles through seat center section and remove. Go to next step.
  4. On all models, remove rear seat sensor harness connectors. See Fig 1 . Remove 3 rear seat sensor mounting screws and remove sensor.
  5. To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten rear seat sensor mounting screws to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  . Perform appropriate coding/programming using proprietary BMW DIS tester as necessary. Activate air bag system. See ACTIVATING SYSTEM  under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM.
