Oil Pump

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 6 other vehicles, including the 2007 MINI Cooper, 2006 MINI Cooper, 2005 MINI Cooper, 2004 MINI Cooper, and 2003 MINI Cooper. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The pump within the transmission is an externally toothed gear pump. The engine drives it via a shaft through the hollow primary pulley shaft. The pump shaft is splined to the planet carrier, which always runs at engine speed. System pressure reaches 40 bar. The oil pressure is used both for controlling the transmission hydraulically, and for lubrication purposes. See Fig 1 .
