Manual Transmission: Installation
WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 10 other vehicles, including the 2003 BMW 530i, 2003 BMW 525i, 2002 BMW 530i, 2002 BMW 525i, and 2001 BMW 530i. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Install transmission screws only in conjunction with washers.
- Pay attention to dowel sleeves. See Fig 1 . If necessary, remove dowel sleeves from transmission case and install in engine block. Replace damaged dowel sleeves.
- Remove release unit and release lever, clean and apply grease to relevant points.
- Check lubrication of transmission input shaft for sticky consistency. See Fig 2 . If grease is sticky, replace clutch plate. Check clutch plate for friction rust in taper splines and replace if necessary. Mechanically remove old grease and lining abrasion from taper splines of clutch plate (with a cloth). Then, using a brush, apply a thin, even coat of grease over entire area of taper splines, also in taper groove.
- Grease bearing pin. Grease selector rod.
- To complete installation, reverse removal procedure. Tighten all fasteners to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- After completion of work, check transmission oil level.
