12 41 020 Removing and installing/replacing starter motor (N12, N14)

Necessary preliminary tasks:

Switch off ignition
Disconnect Battery
Remove Intake Filter Housing
N12: Remove tank venting valve
Remove Right Wheel

NOTE: For purposes of clarity, the following work steps are shown on the engine after it has been removed.

N14 only:

Release bolts and lay vacuum tank (1) to one side.

Release bolt.

For tightening torque refer to 12 41 1AZ in 12 41 STARTER MOTOR AND MOUNTING PARTS .

Unlock plug (1) and remove.

Release nut (2) and remove battery positive lead.

For tightening torque refer to 12 41 2AZ in 12 41 STARTER MOTOR AND MOUNTING PARTS .

Unfasten screws.

For tightening torque refer to 12 41 1AZ in 12 41 STARTER MOTOR AND MOUNTING PARTS .

Remove bracket (3) and starter motor.
