Removal & Installation

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 6 other vehicles, including the 2007 MINI Cooper, 2006 MINI Cooper, 2005 MINI Cooper, 2004 MINI Cooper, and 2003 MINI Cooper. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Drain gearbox oil. Remove right axle shaft. See AXLE SHAFTS article. Remove closure plate retaining bolts (1) and remove closure plate (2). See Fig 1 . Remove engine lower stabilizer. Use a screwdriver to lever out radial seal (1) from transmission housing. See Fig 2 .
Use care to avoid damage to transmission casing. To install, use special tool (261080) and special tool (111220) fit seal into casing until the outer seal ring is flush with transmission casing. See Fig 3 . Refill gearbox with oil and check for leaks.
