Wheel Bearing: Installation

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 6 other vehicles, including the 2008 BMW Z4, 2007 BMW Z4, 2006 BMW Z4, 2005 BMW Z4, and 2004 BMW Z4. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

CAUTION: After installing, lock collar nut. Calk flat area OF axle stub.

If applicable, install guard plate. See Figure .
Fit a new dust guard plate (2). Screw in guide sleeve (1) of Special Tool (31 2 110) for entire length of threads and pull on new bearing assembly. See Fig 1 .
Replace collar nut and tighten down with Special Tool (31 2 080). See Figure .
Tighten collar nut to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Lock collar nut, Calking flat area of axle stub.
Replace sealing cap. Coat edge (mating surface to wheel hub) over entire circumference with sealing compound. Fit sealing cap. See Fig 2 .
Install brake disk and ABS pulse generator. See DISC article in BRAKES.
