24 14 001 Replacing Selector Shaft Seal (GA6HP26Z/6HP32Z)

IMPORTANT:

After completion of work, check transmission fluid level. See 00 11 500 CHECKING/TOPPING UP FLUID LEVEL IN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION (GA6HP26Z/6HP32Z)

Use only the approved transmission fluid. See AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION - OPERATING FLUIDS .

Failure to comply with this requirement will result in serious damage to the automatic transmission!

Necessary preliminary tasks:

Remove underbody protection.

E65/M67TU only

Release screws.

Remove transmission underguard (1).

Remove left diesel particulate filter.

E65/N62 only:

Release screws.

Remove transmission underguard (1).

Remove left oxygen sensor. See 11 78 540 REPLACING LEFT LAMBDA OXYGEN MONITOR SENSOR (N73)

E60/E63/ E64, N62 only:

Remove rear underbody protection.

Remove left oxygen sensor (N62 only).

NOTE: Version 1:

Unfasten nut.

Remove cable (1).

Installation:

Adjusting cable:

Release nut
Adjust cable by means of holder (2)
Distance A ≥ 1 mm.

NOTE: Version 2:

Grip clamping sleeve (1) and slacken nut (2).

Tightening torque 25 16 2AZ. See 25 16 SHIFT CONSOLE - AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION

Detach retainer (3) towards bottom using a screwdriver.

Pull cable (4) out of holder.

Installation:

Adjust selector lever. See 24 00 018 ADJUSTING SELECTOR LEVER (A5S 360R/390R, A4S 200R, 6HP26Z/19Z)

NOTE: Version 3:

Release shift cable head (2) from ball head.

Installation:

Adjust selector lever.

Unfasten nut.

Take off holder (1).

Tightening torque 24 51 1AZ. See 24 51 EXTERNAL SHIFT LINKAGE

Screw in special tool 24 5 361 until it is firmly connected with shaft seal.

Screw special tool 24 5 362 onto special tool 24 5 361 and tighten down.

This pulls the shaft seal out of the transmission housing.

Oil sealing lip on shaft seal (1).

Screw in shaft seal (1) with special tools 24 5 366 and 24 5 364 as far as it will go.
