51 71 407 Replacing Rear Spoiler (BMW ALPINA B7)

Removing rear spoiler: 

NOTE:

Tape off rear lid along rear spoiler to avoid paintwork damage.

In area (A), carefully slide plastic wedge between rear lid and rear spoiler (1) and cut through adhesive bead with a scalpel.

Remove adhesive bead on rear lid down to 0.5 mm.

Minimum object temperature of rear spoiler and body ≥ 18°C.

If this temperature is not achieved, the components must be preheated.

Lay rear spoiler on rear lid and mark position with pieces of adhesive tape.

Remove rear spoiler and treat adhesive area on rear lid with paint activator.

Fitting rear spoiler: 

Sand adhesive area on rear spoiler with P100 abrasive paper.

Clean sanded adhesive area with spirit.

Air drying time at least 1 minute.

Apply adhesive bead dia. = 5 mm at distance (A) to outer edge of spoiler.

A = 10 ... 15 mm

Leave area (B) open on both sides.

B = 50 mm

Place position ring (1) over BMW badge and secure with adhesive tape (2).

NOTE:

The following tasks must be carried out with a 2nd person helping.

  • Place rear spoiler (3) up against position ring (1)
  • Place rear spoiler (3) at sides on rear lid
  • Align rear spoiler (3)
  • Remove position ring
  • Press down rear spoiler (3)
  • Remove emerging adhesive immediately

Rear spoiler (1) must be positioned at sides flush with rear lid.

Fix rear spoiler (1) with pieces of yellow adhesive tape (2) on rear lid and body.

NOTE:

Allow adhesive to set for 24 hours at min. 15°C.

Mechanical strain permitted after no shorter than 2 days (e.g. car wash).
