52 16 405 Replacing Backrest Cover For Left Or Right Front Seat (Sport/Electric) (M5)

Necessary preliminary tasks: 

Release all retainers (1).

Installation: 

Bend new retainers closed with pliers 52 0 050 .

Unfasten plug connection (2) and disconnect.

Unhook backrest cover (3) in marked areas.

Release all retainers at spring wire and backrest padding.

Installation: 

Bend new retainers closed with pliers 52 0 050 .

Carefully fold backrest cover (1) forwards.

Release all retainers.

Installation: 

Secure padding (2) and adjustment unit (3) with new retainers.

Bend new retainers closed with pliers 52 0 050 .

Release all retainers in marked areas.

For seat heating optional extra only: 

Disconnect plug connections (1).

Release all retainers in marked area.

Remove backrest cover (1) from padding.

Remove all remnants of retainers from backrest cover (1) and padding.

Installation: 

Bend new retainer (2) with special tool 52 0 050 .

  1. Support
  2. Retainer
  3. Trim thread in support
  4. Trim wire in backrest cover
  5. Back-rest cover

For seat heating optional extra only: 

Installation: 

Do not trap or crush cable (1) from side heating elements with trim thread and/or retainers.

For seat heating optional extra only: 

Disconnect plug connections (1) for heating elements.

Remove backrest cover (2) from support.

Lever out locking strip of head restraint guide with trim panel wedge 00 9 317 .

Installation: 

Mount straight front face of head restraint guide towards front.

Replacement of back-rest cover: 

Pull trim threads out of backrest cover.

Installation: 

If necessary, cut new backrest cover to size and insert trim threads.
