11 51 000 Removing and Installing/Replacing Water Pump (N54)

Recycling: 

Catch and dispose of drained coolant.

Observe country-specific waste-disposal regulations.

Attention! 

Risk of damage: 

Non-visilbe damage to the coolant pump 

Forcibly removing, installing or dropping the coolant pump will damge it.

Remove and install the coolant pump without damaging it and appying external force

Avoid impact/shocks to the coolant pump.

Necessarily  renew the coolant pump after it fails or receives hard blows.

Installation note: 

1. Aluminum screws/bolts must be replaced each time they are released.
2. Retaing elements on chassis and suspwension and steering parts must be replaced.
3. In case there is contamination with engine oil, localise the leakage, clean and rectify.

Installation note: 

1. Top up coolant.
2. Bring the engine to operating temperature and then check the coolant level and top up if necessary.

Necessary preliminary tasks: 

• Partially release anti-roll bar.
• Remove fan cowl. 17 11 035 REMOVE AND INSTALL OR REPLACE THE FAN COWL WITH ELECTRIC FAN(N53, N54, N54T, N55)
• Drain coolant. 17 00 008 DRAINING AND ADDING COOLANT (N54, N54T)
• Remove coolant thermostat. 11 53 000 Removing and Installing/Replacing Coolant Thermostat (N54) 

Release water hose (1).

Disconnect plug connection (3).

Unfasten screws (2).

Release screws (4).

Installation note: 

Replace aluminum screws.

Tightening torque, see 11 51 1AZ in ENGINE -- TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS -- TWIN TURBO

Installation note: 

If the water pump is to be reused, it must be mechanically rotated once (breakaway torque at impellers).

One water pump rotation will be sufficient.

Assemble engine.

Bleeding  instructions must be observed without fail.
