18 12 044 Replacing primary muffler (N52)

Special tools required: 

WARNING: Scalding hazard! 
Only perform these tasks on an engine that has cooled down.

Support front muffler with special tool 31 2 220.

See Figure.

NOTE: If the cutting line is not marked by a punch mark in the pipe, determine the cutting line by means of the pipe length on the new front muffler (1).
Carry over cutting line to faulty front muffler (1) and mark out.

See Figure.

Cut exhaust pipe at marked point with special tool 00 2 210 and deburr.

See Figure.

Unscrew nuts.

Installation: 

Replace self-locking nuts.

Replace seal.

Tightening torque 18 20 1AZ. Refer to 18 20 EXHAUST SYSTEM SUSPENSION .

Release bolt and remove bracket (1).

Tightening torque 18 20 2AZ. Refer to 18 20 EXHAUST SYSTEM SUSPENSION .

See Figure.

Unfasten screw connection.

Installation: 

Tightening torque 18 20 3AZ. Refer to 18 20 EXHAUST SYSTEM SUSPENSION .

See Figure.

Release bolts along line and remove reinforcement plate (1).

Lower front muffler and remove.

See Figure.

Installation: 

Connect front muffler to rear muffler by means of clamp and align.

Centre clamp and tighten down.

Tightening torque 18 20 8AZ. Refer to 18 20 EXHAUST SYSTEM SUSPENSION .

NOTE: Check exhaust system for leaks.
