72 12 060 Removing and installing/replacing left or right head airbag

Necessary preliminary tasks: 

• Disconnect battery negative lead
• Follow instructions for unlocking and locking airbag plug connections
• Remove roofliner

Head airbag installation summary:

Release screw (1) on end fitting.

Tightening torque 72 12 05AZ. See RESTRAINT SYSTEM - TIGHTENING TORQUES .

Release screw (2) on folding pack holder.

Tightening torques 72 12 04AZ. See RESTRAINT SYSTEM - TIGHTENING TORQUES .

Folding pack holder (3) is screwed to trim for roof pillar at front.

Installation: 

If screws (1...3) slip, coat them with Loctite.

If necessary, lever out clip-mounted holder.

If necessary, slide wiring harness (2) to one side to release screw (1) on folding pack holder.

Tightening torque 72 12 04AZ. See RESTRAINT SYSTEM - TIGHTENING TORQUES .

Release screw (3) from folding pack holders.

Tightening torques 72 12 04AZ. See RESTRAINT SYSTEM - TIGHTENING TORQUES .

Installation: 

If screws (1) and (3) slip, coat them with Loctite.

If necessary, lever out clip-mounted holder.

Unlock plug connection (4) and disconnect.

Release screws (1) on B-pillar ramp.

Tightening torque 72 1206AZ. See RESTRAINT SYSTEM - TIGHTENING TORQUES .

Unscrew bolt (3).

Tightening torque 72 12 03AZ. See RESTRAINT SYSTEM - TIGHTENING TORQUES .

Remove gas generator (5) with head airbag.
