15.2 Front Axle Faults

FRONT AXLE FAULTS SPECIFICATIONS

Fault Cause Remedy
  1. Toe deviation
  1. Vehicle not in normal position
  2. Tie rod(s) bent
  3. Tie rod ball joints worn
  4. Rubber mount in control arm defective
  1. Correct height level
  2. Replace tie rod(s)
  3. Replace tie rod(s)
  4. Replace control arm
2. Camber deviation: The camber is fixed during the design stage and cannot be adjusted.
  1. Rubber mount in control arm defective
  2. Control arm deformed
  3. Spring strut deformed
  4. Traction strut worn
  5. Spring deflection too great
  6. Front axle carrier deformed
  7. Spring strut mount deformed
  8. Distortion in the floor assembly (engine bracket)
  1. Replace control arm
  2. Replace control arm
  3. Replace spring strut
  4. Replace control arm
  5. Replace coil spring, height level
  6. Replace front axle carrier
  7. Repair forward structure
  8. Repair body
3. Castor deviation: The castor is fixed during the design stage and cannot be adjusted.
  1. Rubber mount for tension / traction strut defective
  2. Tension / traction strut deformed
  3. Control arm deformed
  4. Spring strut deformed
  5. Wheelhouse deformed (spring strut mount)
  6. Distortion in the floor assembly (engine bracket)
  1. Replace rubber mount
  2. Replace tension / traction strut
  3. Replace control arm
  4. Replace spring strut
  5. Repair forward structure
  6. Repair body
4. Toe-differential angle deviation Requirement: camber and castor are correct
  1. Tie rods unevenly adjusted
  1. Set wheel toe on left and right to identical values
5. Wheel displacement deviation Requirement: Front wheels have same single toe in relation to the geometrical axis
  1. Front axle carrier deformed
  2. Engine bracket deformed
  3. Control arm deformed
  4. Tension / traction strut deformed
  1. Replace front axle carrier
  2. Repair body
  3. Replace control arm
  4. Replace tension / traction strut
