11 52 020 Removing and installing/replacing fan clutch (S52 / S54 / M52 / M52TU / M54 / M56)

If necessary, remove air duct. See 13 72 001 REPLACING AIR CLEANER ELEMENT (M54)
NOTE:
S54
Remove engine underguard and release fan cowl. See 17 11 031 REPLACING FAN COWL M52TU / M54 AUTOMATIC WITH A/C SYSTEM
IMPORTANT:
Left-hand threads.
Using special tool 11 5 030, grip pulley and unfasten cap nut from water pump using special tool 11 5 040.
If necessary, unfasten fan cowl. See 17 11 031 REPLACING FAN COWL M52TU / M54 AUTOMATIC WITH A/C SYSTEM
Take the fan wheel with fan coupling off the water pump and remove.
Installation:
Tighten down fan impeller using special tool 11 5 040.
Tightening torque, refer to 11 52 1AZ in ENGINE - TIGHTENING TORQUES .
NOTE:
When using special tool 11 5 040, 30 Nm on the torque wrench scale are equivalent to a tightening torque of 40 Nm.
Unfasten screws and detach fan from fan coupling.
