52 13 400 Replacing seat cover on left or right front seat (normal/manual)

NOTE:

For Special Tool identification, see SEATS - SPECIAL TOOLS - COOPER (1.6L) R50/W10 .

Special Tools Required:

52 0 050

Necessary Preliminary Tasks:

Remove front seat. Refer to 52 13 000 REMOVING AND INSTALLING DRIVER'S OR FRONT PASSENGER SEAT (NORMAL / MANUAL) .
Remove inner trim of seat cushion. Refer to 52 13 041 REMOVING AND INSTALLING / REPLACING INNER PANEL ON DRIVER'S AND FRONT PASSENGER SEATS (MANUAL / ELECTRIC) .
Remove outer trim of seat cushion. Refer to 52 13 043 REMOVING AND INSTALLING / REPLACING OUTER PANEL ON DRIVER'S AND FRONT PASSENGER SEATS (MANUAL / ELECTRIC) .
Remove seat belt tensioner.

WARNING: US/CDN front passenger seat (with OC3 mat) only: To avoid damaging the OC3 mat, it is essential to carry out the following operations with extra care.

When replacing seat cover:

If seat cover is defective, seat cover and support with OC3 mat must be replaced together.

New seat cover is supplied with support, OC3 mat and if necessary seat heating.

When replacing support with OC3 mat:

If OC3 mat or support is defective, both parts may only be replaced together.

These must be fitted with the seat cover from the car.

After fitting seat cover, enable OC3 mat with diagnosis system.

Enabling seat occupancy detector (OC3 mat):

Connect diagnosis system.
Release seat occupancy detector.
Clear fault memory if necessary.

IMPORTANT: The mucket (2) must be fitted on the seat frame (3) at corner points (1) (risk of damage to seat cover).

Release rear holder (1) of trim.

Version with seat heating:

Turn (black) plug connection (1) for seat heating counterclockwise and detach from frame.

Cut through cable ties (2) securing wiring harness for seat heating to frame.

Installation:

Secure wiring harness with available clip.

Detach plug connection (3) of seat heating element in backrest.

Remove cover from side holder (1).

Remove clip (2) securing cover.

Release side holder (3) of trim.

Repeat this step on the opposite side.

Release front holder (1) of trim.

Remove upholstered cover.

Installation:

Before installing the upholstered trim, make sure the upholstery material is resting correctly on the seat cushion frame.

Version with OC3 mat:

OC3 mat must not be kinked under any circumstances.

Detach all retainers in side area from longitudinal wires (1).

Pull trim wires (1) forward out of seat cover.

If necessary, depending on version, carefully take up seat cover and release clips from cross-wires.

Remove seat cover from support.

IMPORTANT: Remove all remnants of clips from seat cover and support.

Support (1) with OC3 mat (2).

IMPORTANT: No retainer remainders may be fitted as well. Handle OC3 mat with extreme care. Do not kink OC3 mat. Do not clamp OC3 mat. OC3 mat must lie without folds under seat cover.

Installation:

Insert new retainer (2) with special tool 52 0 050 and bend closed.

Support.
Retainer.
Trim thread in support.
Trim thread in seat cover.
Seat cover.
