12 31 020 Removing and installing/replacing alternator (COOPER S)

Special tools required: 

• 11 8 401
• 11 8 402

Necessary preliminary tasks: 

• Read out fault memory of EMS / DME control unit
• Check stored fault message
• Switch off ignition
• Disconnect battery, refer to 12 00 Disconnecting and connecting battery 
• Remove alternator drive belt, refer to 11 28 050 REMOVING A/C COMPRESSOR DRIVE BELT (COOPER S)
• Remove front bumper trim, refer to 51 11 156 REMOVING AND INSTALLING FRONT BUMPER TRIM

Lower front end module and install special tools 11 8 401 and 11 8 402.

Release nut and remove positive lead (1).

Tightening torque 12 31 2AZ. Refer to ENGINE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM - TIGHTENING TORQUES .

Unlock plug (2) and remove.

Release screws (1) and remove alternator.

Tightening torque 12 31 1AZ. Refer to ENGINE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM - TIGHTENING TORQUES .
