12 31 020 Removing and installing/replacing alternator

Necessary Preliminary Tasks: 

• Read out fault memory of DME control unit.
• Check stored fault messages.
• Switch off ignition.
• Disconnect battery. Refer to 12 00 DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING BATTERY .
• Remove alternator drive belt. Refer to 11 28 010 REPLACING ALTERNATOR DRIVE BELT (W10) .
• Remove intake air manifold. Refer to 11 61 051 REMOVING AND INSTALLING INTAKE MANIFOLD .

Unlock plug (2) and remove.

Release nut (1) and remove battery positive lead.

Installation: 

Tightening torque, refer to 12 31 2AZ in ENGINE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM - TIGHTENING TORQUES - COOPER (1.6L) R50/W10 .

Release screws (1) and remove alternator.

Installation: 

Tightening torque, refer to 12 31 1AZ in ENGINE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM - TIGHTENING TORQUES - COOPER (1.6L) R50/W10 .
