61 21 010 Removing and installing battery

WARNING: Follow safety instructions for handling vehicle battery. Refer to 61 00 ... SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS FOR HANDLING VEHICLE BATTERY .

This text deals with removing the battery from the engine compartment.

Removing the battery from the luggage compartment is performed in the same way.

Remove rubber seal (1).

Press clips in direction of arrow and remove cover.

IMPORTANT: Disconnect battery negative lead first, followed by battery positive lead (risk of short circuit).

Detach vent hose (1).

Release screw (2), tightening torque, refer to 61 21 1AZ in GENERAL ELECTRICAL SYSTEM - TIGHTENING TORQUE - COOPER (1.6L) R50/W10 .

Detach battery negative lead.

Release screw (3), tightening torque, refer to 61 21 1AZ in GENERAL ELECTRICAL SYSTEM - TIGHTENING TORQUE - COOPER (1.6L) R50/W10 .

Detach battery positive lead.

Release screws (4), tightening torque, refer to 61 21 2AZ in GENERAL ELECTRICAL SYSTEM - TIGHTENING TORQUE - COOPER (1.6L) R50/W10 .

Remove battery retaining bracket.

Lift out battery.

Installation: 

Connect battery in reverse sequence. Connect battery positive lead first, followed by negative lead.

Make sure both battery leads run at an angle of 90° to the battery container because they are routed through openings in the battery container cover.

Installation: 

Initialize both power windows. Refer to 67 62 ... NOTES ON INITIALIZING POWER WINDOW UNIT (FRONT) .
