Removal & Installation
- On Cooper S, remove intake filter housing. On Cooper, remove battery box. On all models, remove right partition. Draw brake fluid out of reservoir tank using a suction bottle. Use a suction bottle used exclusively for drawing off brake fluid. Remove seal. Press release tabs on left and right in direction of arrow and remove cover. Disconnect plug connection.
- Detach feed hose for clutch hydraulics. The supply hose must be secured in the vertical position so that no fluid can emerge. Unclip vacuum hose for brake booster at top of reservoir tank. Remove screw. Lift reservoir tank vertically from brake master cylinder. On vehicles with Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), disconnect electrical connection for pressure sensor. On all vehicles, unfasten brake lines. Remove nuts and remove brake master cylinder from brake booster. See Fig 1.
- To install, reverse removal procedure. Replace self-locking nuts. Replace "O" rings. See Fig 2. If brake master cylinder is replaced in vehicles with DSC, pressure sensor must be modified. When inserting master brake cylinder into brake booster, make sure pressure rod of brake booster and pressure rod of master brake cylinder are in one plane. See Fig 3. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
