Disc Brake Caliper: Reassembly
- Install caliper bushings. Overlap edges of bushing slightly to fit bushing into seal. After installation, press bushing against seal to remove overlapping. When properly installed, ends of bushing must be butted against each other.
- Lubricate new piston seal with brake fluid. Install seal. Ensure seal is not twisted. Install dust boot on piston. Position dust boot at bottom of piston. Hold dust boot on piston and pull on seal lip until seal unfolds, allowing lip seal to extend beyond bottom of piston.
- While holding dust boot on piston, fit seal lip in caliper bore and push piston into caliper. As piston enters bore, dust boot will refold to its original shape.
- If shaft bushing was removed, press new bushing to a depth of .29" (7 mm) below lower seal lip. See Fig 1
. Lubricate shaft and bushing. Install shaft seal. Install shaft and lever. Install stop bolt and spring.
- Install parking brake strut. Install "O" ring on adjuster. Install adjuster. Install key plate. Ensure dimple on key plate is positioned correctly in caliper bore. Install snap ring. Install Snap Ring Compressor (T87P-2588-B3) into caliper bore.

- Install washer, spring and spring cover. Install Plunger (T87P-2588-B2) into snap ring compressor. Position Press (T87P-2588-B1) onto snap ring compressor. See Fig 2
.
- Tighten press screw until snap ring is firmly seated. Remove tools. Lubricate caliper bore with clean brake fluid. Install piston seal. Install thrust bearing, washers and snap ring on adjusting nut. Install dust boot on piston.
- Position piston in caliper bore. Using piston adapter, rotate piston clockwise to start piston onto adjuster. Install dust boot into groove. Continue to rotate piston until it bottoms. Ensure tab on brake pad will engage with piston.
