Temperature Gauge

CAUTION: DO NOT apply 12 volts or ground directly to temperature gauge sending unit terminal. This voltage will damage sending unit and gauge.
  1. Ensure engine-to-body ground strap has a clean and tight connection. A poor ground connection can cause a high temperature gauge indication. Test temperature gauge by installing a 19-ohm resistor between gauge lead wire and ground.
  2. Turn ignition switch to "I" or "II" position. Gauge pointer should indicate within Red sector of gauge. Remove 19-ohm resistor and install a 250-ohm resistor. Gauge pointer should indicate within White sector of gauge. If gauge tests okay, replace sending unit. If gauge remains inaccurate, replace the gauge assembly.
