Checking Timing

  1. Remove access plug from outer timing belt cover. Place No. 1 cylinder at TDC. Timing mark on outer timing belt cover and mark on crankshaft damper should be aligned. See Fig 1.

  2. Look through access hole and check timing mark on camshaft sprocket with pointer on inner timing belt cover. See Fig 1. Remove distributor cap and check rotor position. Rotor should be at No. 1 spark plug tower. If timing marks are not aligned, adjustment or component replacement is necessary.
