Cylinder Head: Installation

  1. Place new head gasket on block, with marked side ("Front-Up") in proper position. Carefully lower cylinder head assembly onto block. Ensure head fits over dowels in block.
  2. Place new valve cover gasket on valve cover, with Contact Cement (D7AZ-19B508-A), and install at later time. Oil cylinder head bolts lightly and install in cylinder head. Tighten head bolt in sequence and 2 steps. See Fig 1.
  3. First step, tighten to 50-60 ft. lbs. (68-81 N.m) and second step, tighten to 80-90 ft. lbs. (108-122 N.m). To complete installation, reverse removal procedure. Tighten all bolts/nuts to specifications. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  table at end of article.
