Fitting Pistons

  1. Inspect pistons for wear, cracks, ring groove wear or breakage and size. Check for glaze on thrust side of piston. This indicates a bent rod. Check cylinder block and bore. Check piston-to-cylinder bore clearance.
  2. Measure diameter of cylinder bore at top, middle and bottom. Cylinder bore out-of-round should not be more than .0015" (.038 mm). Cylinder bore taper should not be more than .010" (.25 mm). Measure piston skirt diameter at piston pin center and 90 degrees to pin axis.
