Timing Adjustment

  1. Camshaft and crankshaft sprockets contain timing marks which indicate TDC. Camshaft can be 180 degrees out and still have timing marks aligned. Make sure the No. 1 cylinder valves are closed when camshaft timing mark is aligned with inner cover timing mark. Refer to Figure.
  2. Crankshaft has 2 different timing marks to indicate TDC. A timing mark on crankshaft damper and outer timing belt cover is for setting engine timing. A timing mark on crankshaft sprocket and a notch on inner cover are used for timing belt installation.
  3. Auxiliary sprocket drives the distributor assembly. With crankshaft and camshaft timing marks in alignment, distributor rotor must face No. 1 spark plug tower. Ensure camshaft is at No. 1 cylinder and valves are closed, not 180 degrees out.
