Piston & Rod Assembly: Installation
- Before installing, see CLEANING & INSPECTION under ~CYLINDER BLOCK ASSEMBLY in this article. Note notch/arrow on piston top and ensure mark faces front of engine.NOTE: Piston rings are marked and must be installed properly on pistons.
- Install rings on pistons and properly space piston ring gaps. Place oil ring expander ends at piston front, 20 degrees either side of piston pin. Install oil ring segment gap at rear of piston, 80 degrees apart and not aligned with piston pin. Install compression rings 80 degrees apart and not aligned with piston pin.
- Install rod nuts and evenly tighten to 25-30 ft. lbs. (34-41 N.m). Tighten rod nuts again to 30-36 ft. lbs. (41-49 N.m). Repeat procedure for remaining pistons. To complete installation, reverse removal procedure. Tighten all bolts/nuts to specifications.
