Parking Brake Cables: Removal

  1. Raise vehicle and loosen parking brake cable adjuster lock nut. Both adjuster sleeve and lock nut are threaded onto cable casing. Any attempt to pry them apart will result in damage to sleeve and/or lock nut. To loosen lock nut, hold sleeve with pliers and turn lock nut counterclockwise with another set of pliers.
  2. Remove brake shoes on both sides of vehicle. Using screwdriver, spread retaining clip and pull cable out of backing plate. Remove clip and clevis pin attaching cable equalizer to parking brake lever rod.
  3. Using a screwdriver, open routing clamps and disengage cable from both control arms. Thread cable through body brackets and remove from vehicle.
