Front Disc Brake Caliper: Disassembly

  1. Remove caliper assembly and brake pads. Open bleeder screw and drain brake fluid out of caliper. Close bleeder screw.
  2. Position a block of wood or a roll of shop towels between piston and caliper. To remove piston, apply air pressure through fluid inlet port. Apply only enough air pressure to ease piston out of caliper.
WARNING: DO NOT use an excessive amount of air pressure to remove piston. Excessive pressure can force piston out with enough force to cause personal injury. NEVER attempt to catch piston by hand.
  3. Remove piston seal from caliper and discard. Use a plastic stick or pencil to remove seal. DO NOT use a screwdriver or other metal tool. A metal tool can scratch or nick seal groove resulting in a possible seal leak. Remove caliper anchor pin bushing and seal.
