Pinpoint Test G: The Anti-Lock Brake System (Abs) Warning Indicator Is Never/Always On

- G1 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM BOTH CONTINUOUS AND ON-DEMAND ABS MODULE SELF-TESTS
- Check the recorded ABS module DTCs from the continuous and on-demand self-tests.
- Are any ABS DTCs recorded?
- YES : REFER to VEHICLE DYNAMIC SYSTEMS article.
- NO : Go to G2.
- G2 CARRY OUT THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER WARNING LAMPS AND CHIME ACTIVE COMMAND USING THE SCAN TOOL
- Key in ON position.
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: Instrument Cluster Active Command
- Select the instrument cluster indicator lamp control active command. Select the ALL_LAMP active command on and off. Observe the ABS warning indicator.
- Does the ABS warning indicator illuminate when selected on, and turn off when selected off?
- G3 CHECK FOR CORRECT INSTRUMENT CLUSTER OPERATION
- Disconnect the instrument cluster connector.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- damaged pins
- pushed-out pins
- Connect the instrument cluster connector and make sure it seats correctly.
- Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
- YES : INSTALL a new instrument cluster. REFER to Instrument Cluster . TEST the system for normal operation.
- NO : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
- G4 CHECK FOR CORRECT ABS MODULE OPERATION
- Disconnect the ABS module connector.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- damaged pins
- pushed-out pins
- Connect the ABS module connector and make sure it seats correctly.
- Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
- YES : INSTALL a ABS module. REFER to VEHICLE DYNAMIC SYSTEMS article. TEST the system for normal operation.
- NO : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
