Normal Operation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2007 Mercury Mariner and 2007 Ford Escape. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The smart junction box (SJB) sends reference signals to the multifunction switch through circuits 1690 (LB/RD) (LH turn input) and 1691 (LG/OG) (RH turn input). When the multifunction switch is placed to the LH or RH TURN position, the voltage signal is routed to ground through circuit 570 (BK/WH). When the SJB detects the multifunction switch is in the LH TURN position, the SJB sends voltage through circuit 3 (LG/WH) to the LH turn lamps. When the SJB detects the multifunction switch is in the RH TURN position, the SJB sends voltage through circuit 2 (WH/LB) to the RH turn lamps. Circuit 57 (BK) provides ground for each turn lamp.

All the turn lamps are individually wired to the SJB. The timed on/off cycle is determined in the SJB and is set to flash approximately 80 times per minute if both the front and rear turn lamps operate correctly. If only 1 turn signal lamp operates, the SJB will flash approximately 160 times per minute.
