Normal Operation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2007 Mercury Mariner and 2007 Ford Escape. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The smart junction box (SJB) sends a reference signal to the multifunction switch through circuit 1399 (DB/WH) and a signal to the light sensor through circuit 7 (LG/YE). When the multifunction switch is placed in the AUTOLAMPS ON position, the voltage signal is routed to ground through circuit 570 (BK/WH). When the SJB detects the multifunction switch in the AUTOLAMPS ON position, the SJB provides voltage to the exterior lamps if the ambient light conditions are dark. The light sensor determines the amount of light based on the input received from the ambient sky conditions. When the ambient level has reached a point (determined by the internal programming of the SJB), the SJB provides voltage to the headlamps, license plate lamps and parking lamps.
