PINPOINT TEST D: DTCs C1322, C1323, C1324 AND C1325 - BRAKE HYDRAULIC MASTER CYLINDER PISTON-TRAVEL SENSOR(S) FAULTS

CAUTION: Use the correct probe adapter(s) when taking measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.
  1. D1 RETRIEVE THE ABS MODULE DTCs 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Connect the diagnostic tool.
    • Key in ON position.
    • Carry out the ABS module on-demand self test.
    • Are DTCs C1322, C1323, C1324 or C1325 present? 
    1. YES  : Go to  D2. If other DTCs are retrieved, go to the Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) Module Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Index.
    2. NO  : The system is operating correctly at this time.
  2. D2 CHECK CIRCUITS 3601 (WH/RD) AND 3603 (RD) FOR 5 VOLT REFERENCE VOLTAGE 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Brake Pedal Travel Sensor C1347
    • Key in ON position.

    • Measure the voltage between:
      • brake pedal travel sensor C1347-3, circuit 3601 (WH/RD), harness side and brake pedal travel sensor C1347-1, circuit 1904 (GY/BK), harness side.
      • brake pedal travel sensor C1347-6, circuit 3603 (RD), harness side and brake pedal travel sensor C1347-4, circuit 3600 (RD/WH), harness side.
    • Are the voltages +5 volts (+/- 0.25 volt)? 
    1. YES  : Go to  D12.
    2. NO  : Go to  D3.
  3. D3 CHECK THE BRAKE PEDAL TRAVEL SENSOR C1347 TO IN-LINE C146 FOR OPEN CIRCUITS 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: In-line Brake Pedal Travel Sensor C146

    • Measure the resistance between:
      • brake pedal travel sensor C1347-1, circuit 1904 (GY/BK), harness side and in-line brake pedal travel sensor C146-1, circuit 1904 (GY/BK), harness side.
      • brake pedal travel sensor C1347-2, circuit 1905 (GY), harness side and in-line brake pedal travel sensor C146-2, circuit 1905 (GY), harness side.
      • brake pedal travel sensor C1347-3, circuit 3601 (WH/RD), harness side and in-line brake pedal travel sensor C146-3, circuit 3601 (WH/RD), harness side.
      • brake pedal travel sensor C1347-4, circuit 3600 (RD/WH), harness side and in-line brake pedal travel sensor C146-4, circuit 3600 (RD/WH), harness side.
      • brake pedal travel sensor C1347-5, circuit 1820 (RD/YE), harness side and in-line brake pedal travel sensor C146-5, circuit 1820 (RD/YE), harness side.
      • brake pedal travel sensor C1347-6, circuit 3603 (RD), harness side and in-line brake pedal travel sensor C146-6, circuit 3603 (RD), harness side.
    • Are the resistances less than 5 ohms? 
    1. YES  : Go to  D4.
    2. NO  : REPAIR the affected circuit(s), then Go to  D12 .
  4. D4 CHECK THE CIRCUITS BETWEEN BRAKE PEDAL TRAVEL SENSOR C1347 AND IN-LINE C146 FOR SHORTS TOGETHER 
    • Measure the resistance between brake pedal position sensor C1347-1, circuit 1904 (GY/BK), harness side and:
      • brake pedal position sensor C1347-2, circuit 1905 (GY), harness side.
      • brake pedal position sensor C1347-3, circuit 3601 (WH/RD), harness side.
      • brake pedal position sensor C1347-4, circuit 3600 (RD/WH), harness side.
      • brake pedal position sensor C1347-5, circuit 1820 (RD/YE), harness side.
      • brake pedal position sensor C1347-6, circuit 3603 (RD), harness side.
    • Measure the resistance between brake pedal position sensor C1347-2, circuit 1905 (GY), harness side and:
      • brake pedal position sensor C1347-3, circuit 3601 (WH/RD), harness side.
      • brake pedal position sensor C1347-4, circuit 3600 (RD/WH), harness side.
      • brake pedal position sensor C1347-5, circuit 1820 (RD/YE), harness side.
      • brake pedal position sensor C1347-6, circuit 3603 (RD), harness side.
    • Measure the resistance between brake pedal position sensor C1347-3, circuit 3601 (WH/RD), harness side and:
      • brake pedal position sensor C1347-4, circuit 3600 (RD/WH), harness side.
      • brake pedal position sensor C1347-5, circuit 1820 (RD/YE), harness side.
      • brake pedal position sensor C1347-6, circuit 3603 (RD), harness side.
    • Measure the resistance between brake pedal position sensor C1347-4, circuit 3600 (RD/WH), harness side and:
      • brake pedal position sensor C1347-5, circuit 1820 (RD/YE), harness side.
      • brake pedal position sensor C1347-6, circuit 3603 (RD), harness side.
    • Measure the resistance between brake pedal position sensor C1347-5, circuit 1820 (RD/YE), harness side and brake pedal position sensor C1347-6, circuit 3603 (RD), harness side.
    • Are the resistances greater than 10,000 ohms? 
    1. YES  : Go to  D5.
    2. NO  : REPAIR the affected circuit(s). CLEAR the DTC. REPEAT the self-test.
  5. D5 CHECK THE IN-LINE BRAKE PEDAL TRAVEL SENSOR C146 TO ABS MODULE C1462 FOR OPEN CIRCUITS 
    • Disconnect: ABS Module C1462

    • Measure the resistances between:
      • in-line brake pedal travel sensor C146-1, circuit 1904 (GY/BK), harness side and ABS module C1462-20, circuit 1904 (GY/BK), harness side.
      • in-line brake pedal travel sensor C146-2, circuit 1905 (GY), harness side and ABS module C1462-19, circuit 1905 (GY), harness side.
      • in-line brake pedal travel sensor C146-3, circuit 3601 (WH/RD), harness side and ABS module C1462-18, circuit 3601 (WH/RD), harness side.
      • in-line brake pedal travel sensor C146-4, circuit 3600 (RD/WH), harness side and ABS module C1462-21, circuit 3600 (RD/WH), harness side.
      • in-line brake pedal travel sensor C146-5, circuit 1820 (RD/YE), harness side and ABS module C1462-23, circuit 1820 (RD/YE), harness side.
      • in-line brake pedal travel sensor C146-6, circuit 3603 (RD), harness side and ABS module C1462-22, circuit 3603 (RD), harness side.
    • Are the resistances less than 5 ohms? 
    1. YES  : Go to  D6.
    2. NO  : REPAIR the affected circuit(s), then Go to  D12 .
  6. D6 CHECK THE CIRCUITS BETWEEN IN-LINE C146 AND ABS MODULE C1462 FOR SHORTS TOGETHER 
    • Measure the resistance between brake pedal position sensor C146-1, circuit 1904 (GY/BK), harness side and:
      • brake pedal position sensor C146-2, circuit 1905 (GY), harness side.
      • brake pedal position sensor C146-3, circuit 3601 (WH/RD), harness side.
      • brake pedal position sensor C146-4, circuit 3600 (RD/WH), harness side.
      • brake pedal position sensor C146-5, circuit 1820 (RD/YE), harness side.
      • brake pedal position sensor C146-6, circuit 3603 (RD), harness side.
    • Measure the resistance between brake pedal position sensor C146-2, circuit 1905 (GY), harness side and:
      • brake pedal position sensor C146-3, circuit 3601 (WH/RD), harness side.
      • brake pedal position sensor C146-4, circuit 3600 (RD/WH), harness side.
      • brake pedal position sensor C146-5, circuit 1820 (RD/YE), harness side.
      • brake pedal position sensor C146-6, circuit 3603 (RD), harness side.
    • Measure the resistance between brake pedal position sensor C146-3, circuit 3601 (WH/RD), harness side and:
      • brake pedal position sensor C146-4, circuit 3600 (RD/WH), harness side.
      • brake pedal position sensor C146-5, circuit 1820 (RD/YE), harness side.
      • brake pedal position sensor C146-6, circuit 3603 (RD), harness side.
    • Measure the resistance between brake pedal position sensor C146-4, circuit 3600 (RD/WH), harness side and:
      • brake pedal position sensor C146-5, circuit 1820 (RD/YE), harness side.
      • brake pedal position sensor C146-6, circuit 3603 (RD), harness side.
    • Measure the resistance between brake pedal position sensor C146-5, circuit 1820 (RD/YE), harness side and brake pedal position sensor C146-6, circuit 3603 (RD), harness side.
    • Are the resistances greater than 10,000 ohms? 
    1. YES  : For DTCs C1322 or C1323, go to  D7. For DTCs C1324 or C1325, go to  D9.
    2. NO  : REPAIR the affected circuit(s). CLEAR the DTC. REPEAT the self-test.
  7. D7 CHECK THE BRAKE PEDAL TRAVEL SENSOR 2 CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Connect: In-Line Brake Pedal Travel Sensor C146

    • Measure the resistance between ground and:
      • brake pedal travel sensor C1347-4, circuit 3600 (RD/WH), harness side.
      • brake pedal travel sensor C1347-5, circuit 1820 (RD/YE), harness side.
      • brake pedal travel sensor C1347-6, circuit 3603 (RD), harness side.
    • Are the resistances greater than 10,000 ohms? 
    1. YES  : Go to  D8.
    2. NO  : REPAIR the affected circuit(s). CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  8. D8 CHECK THE BRAKE PEDAL TRAVEL SENSOR 2 CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE 
    • Key in ON position.

    • Measure the voltage between ground and:
      • brake pedal travel sensor C1347-4, circuit 3600 (RD/WH), harness side.
      • brake pedal travel sensor C1347-5, circuit 1820 (RD/YE), harness side.
      • brake pedal travel sensor C1347-6, circuit 3603 (RD), harness side.
    • Are voltages present? 
    1. YES  : REPAIR the affected circuit(s). CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
    2. NO  : Go to  D11.
  9. D9 CHECK THE BRAKE PEDAL TRAVEL SENSOR 1 CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Connect: In-Line Brake Pedal Travel Sensor C146

    • Measure the resistance between ground and:
      • brake pedal travel sensor C1347-1, circuit 1904 (GY/BK), harness side.
      • brake pedal travel sensor C1347-2, circuit 1905 (GY), harness side.
      • brake pedal travel sensor C1347-3, circuit 3601 (WH/RD), harness side.
    • Are the resistances greater than 10,000 ohms? 
    1. YES  : Go to  D10.
    2. NO  : REPAIR the affected circuit(s). CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  10. D10 CHECK THE BRAKE PEDAL TRAVEL SENSOR 1 CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE 
    • Key in ON position.

    • Measure the voltage between ground and:
      • brake pedal travel sensor C1347-1, circuit 1904 (GY/BK), harness side.
      • brake pedal travel sensor C1347-2, circuit 1905 (GY), harness side.
      • brake pedal travel sensor C1347-3, circuit 3601 (WH/RD), harness side.
    • Are voltages present? 
    1. YES  : REPAIR the affected circuit(s). CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
    2. NO  : Go to  D11.
  11. D11 CHECK THE ABS MODULE CONNECTOR 
    • Disconnect the ABS module.
    • Check the ABC module connector C1462 for:
      • corrosion.
      • pushed out pins.
      • damaged pins.
      • male-to-female harness pin alignment.
    • Connect the ABS module connector and make sure it seats correctly.
    • Clear the DTCs. Repeat the self-test.
    • Is the DTC still present? 
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new HCU. REFER to VEHICLE DYNAMIC SYSTEMS article. REPEAT the self-test.
    2. NO  : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
  12. D12 CHECK THE BRAKE PEDAL TRAVEL SENSOR CONNECTORS 
    • Disconnect the in-line brake pedal travel sensor C146 and C1347.
    • Check for:
      • corrosion.
      • pushed out pins.
      • damaged pins.
      • male-to-female harness pin alignment.
    • Connect the travel sensor connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
    • Clear the DTCs. Repeat the self-test.
    • Is the DTC still present? 
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new brake master cylinder. REFER to HYDRAULIC BRAKE ACTUATION article. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
    2. NO  : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
