Pinpoint Test E: The Chime Sounds When The Driver Door Is Ajar (No Key In Ignition And Headlamps Off)

CAUTION:
Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.
- E1 CHECK CIRCUIT 158 (BK/PK) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Remove the key from the ignition lock cylinder.
- Disconnect: Instrument Cluster C220b
- Measure the voltage between the instrument cluster C220b-15, circuit 158 (BK/PK), harness side and ground.
- Is any voltage present?
- E2 CHECK FOR CORRECT KEY-IN-IGNITION WARNING SWITCH OPERATION
- Disconnect: Ignition Switch C250
- Measure the voltage between the instrument cluster C220b-15, circuit 158 (BK/PK), harness side and ground.
- Is any voltage present?
- YES : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- NO : INSTALL a new ignition switch. REFER to STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES article. TEST the system for normal operation.
- E3 CHECK CIRCUIT 257 (WH/RD) FOR VOLTAGE
- Turn the headlamp switch OFF.
- Disconnect: Instrument Cluster C220a
- Measure the voltage between the instrument cluster C220a-9, circuit 257 (WH/RD), harness side and ground.
- Is any voltage present?
- E4 CHECK FOR CORRECT HEADLAMP SWITCH OPERATION
- Disconnect: Headlamp Switch C2150a
- Measure the voltage between the instrument cluster C220a-9, circuit 257 (WH/RD), harness side and ground.
- Is any voltage present?
- YES : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- NO : INSTALL a new headlamp switch. REFER to EXTERIOR LIGHTING article. TEST the system for normal operation.
- E5 CHECK FOR CORRECT INSTRUMENT CLUSTER OPERATION
- Disconnect all the instrument cluster connectors.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- damaged pins
- pushed-out pins
- Connect all the instrument cluster connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
- YES : INSTALL a new instrument cluster. REFER to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER article. TEST the system for normal operation.
- NO : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
