Pinpoint Test E: The Power Seat Does Not Move Horizontally/Vertically

- E1 DETERMINE WHICH DIRECTION HAS FAILED WARNING: The restraint system diagnostic tool is for restraint system service only. Remove from vehicle prior to road use. Failure to remove could result in injury and possible violation of vehicle safety standards.NOTE: The air bag warning lamp illuminates when the restraints control module (RCM) fuse is removed and the ignition switch is ON. This is normal operation and does not indicate a supplemental restraint system (SRS) fault.NOTE: The SRS must be fully operational and free of faults before releasing the vehicle to the customer.
- Depower the SRS. Refer to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering in the General Procedures portion of SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM article.
- Disconnect the affected seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3201 (driver) or C3202 (passenger).
- Connect restraint system diagnostic tool 418-F395 to the affected seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3201 (driver) or C3202 (passenger).
- Connect the battery ground cable.
- Key in OFF position.
- Push the driver or passenger seat control switch to the front and rear.
- Does the power seat move to the front and rear?
WARNING: Be sure that nobody is in the vehicle and that there is nothing blocking or set in front of any air bag module when the battery ground cable is connected. - E2 DETERMINE POWER SEAT TILTING FAILURE
- Verify the power seat tilting feature.
- Can the power seat be tilted forward and rearward?
- YES
: For driver seat, if only the forward tilting operates, go to E3.
For driver seat, if only the rearward tilting operates, go to E6.
For passenger seat, if only the forward tilting operates, go to E12.
For passenger seat, if only the rearward tilting operates, go to E15.
- NO : INSTALL a new seat control switch. TEST the system for normal operation. DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3201 or passenger seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3202. CONNECT driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3201 or passenger seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3202. REPOWER the supplemental restraint system (SRS). REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM article.
- E3 CHECK THE VOLTAGE TO THE REAR HEIGHT MOTOR
- Disconnect: Driver Seat Motor Assembly C353
- Measure the voltage between driver seat motor assembly C353-6, circuit 983 (RD/LG) and C353-5, circuit 982 (YE/LG), harness side, while pushing the driver seat control rear height switch up and down.
- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts when the seat control switch rear height adjustment is in the up position, greater than negative (-) 10 volts in the down position and 0 volt in the neutral position?
- YES : INSTALL a new driver seat track assembly. TEST the system for normal operation. DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3201. CONNECT driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3201. REPOWER the supplemental restraint system (SRS). REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM article.
- NO : Go to E4.
- E4 CHECK CIRCUIT 982 (YE/LG) FOR AN OPEN
- Disconnect: Driver Seat Control Switch C369
- Measure the resistance between driver seat control switch C369-4, circuit 982 (YE/LG), harness side and driver seat motor assembly C353-5, circuit 982 (YE/LG), harness side.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
- YES : Go to E5.
- NO : REPAIR circuit 982 (YE/LG). TEST the system for normal operation. DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3201. CONNECT driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3201. REPOWER the supplemental restraint system (SRS). REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM article.
- E5 CHECK CIRCUIT 983 (RD/LG) FOR AN OPEN
- Measure the resistance between driver seat control switch C369-6, circuit 983 (RD/LG), harness side and driver seat motor assembly C353-6, circuit 983 (RD/LG), harness side.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
- YES : INSTALL a new driver seat control switch. TEST the system for normal operation. DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3201. CONNECT driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3201. REPOWER the supplemental restraint system (SRS). REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM article.
- NO : REPAIR circuit 983 (RD/LG). TEST the system for normal operation. DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3201. CONNECT driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3201. REPOWER the supplemental restraint system (SRS). REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM article.
- E6 CHECK THE VOLTAGE TO THE FRONT HEIGHT MOTOR
- Disconnect: Driver Seat Motor Assembly C353
- Measure the voltage between driver seat motor assembly C353-2, circuit 979 (RD/LB) and C353-3, circuit 990 (YE/LB), harness side, while pushing the driver seat control switch front height adjustment up and down.
- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts when the seat control switch front height adjustment is in the up position, greater than negative (-) 10 volts in the down position and 0 volt in the neutral position?
- YES : INSTALL a new driver seat track assembly. TEST the system for normal operation. DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3201. CONNECT driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3201. REPOWER the supplemental restraint system (SRS). REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM article.
- NO : Go to E7.
- E7 CHECK CIRCUIT 979 (RD/LB) FOR AN OPEN
- Disconnect: Driver Seat Control Switch C369
- Measure the resistance between driver seat control switch C369-2, circuit 979 (RD/LB), harness side and driver seat motor assembly C353-2, circuit 979 (RD/LB), harness side.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
- YES : Go to E8.
- NO : REPAIR circuit 979 (RD/LB). TEST the system for normal operation. DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3201. CONNECT driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3201. REPOWER the supplemental restraint system (SRS). REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM article.
- E8 CHECK CIRCUIT 990 (YE/LB) FOR AN OPEN
- Measure the resistance between driver seat control switch C369-8, circuit 990 (YE/LB), harness side and driver seat motor assembly C353-3, circuit 990 (YE/LB), harness side.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
- YES : INSTALL a new driver seat control switch. TEST the system for normal operation. DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3201. CONNECT driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3201. REPOWER the supplemental restraint system (SRS). REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM article.
- NO : REPAIR circuit 990 (YE/LB). TEST the system for normal operation. DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3201. CONNECT driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3201. REPOWER the supplemental restraint system (SRS). REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM article.
- E9 CHECK THE VOLTAGE TO THE FORWARD/REARWARD MOTOR
- Disconnect: Driver Seat Motor Assembly C353
- Measure the voltage between driver seat motor assembly C353-1, circuit 981 (RD/WH) and C353-4, circuit 980 (YE/WH), harness side, while pushing the driver seat control switch forward and rearward.
- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts when the seat control switch is in the forward position, greater than negative (-) 10 volts in the rearward position and 0 volt in the neutral position?
- YES : INSTALL a new driver seat track assembly. TEST the system for normal operation. DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3201. CONNECT driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3201. REPOWER the supplemental restraint system (SRS). REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM article.
- NO : Go to E10.
- E10 CHECK CIRCUIT 981 (RD/WH) FOR AN OPEN
- Disconnect: Driver Seat Control Switch C369
- Measure the resistance between driver seat control switch C369-3, circuit 981 (RD/WH), harness side and driver seat motor assembly C353-1, circuit 981 (RD/WH), harness side.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
- YES : Go to E11.
- NO : REPAIR circuit 981 (RD/WH). TEST the system for normal operation. DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3201. CONNECT driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3201. REPOWER the supplemental restraint system (SRS). REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM article.
- E11 CHECK CIRCUIT 980 (YE/WH) FOR AN OPEN
- Measure the resistance between driver seat control switch C369-5, circuit 980 (YE/WH), harness side and driver seat motor assembly C353-4, circuit 980 (YE/WH), harness side.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
- YES : INSTALL a new driver seat control switch. TEST the system for normal operation. DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3201. CONNECT driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3201. REPOWER the supplemental restraint system (SRS). REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM article.
- NO : REPAIR circuit 980 (YE/WH). TEST the system for normal operation. DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3201. CONNECT driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3201. REPOWER the supplemental restraint system (SRS). REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM article.
- E12 CHECK THE VOLTAGE TO THE REAR HEIGHT MOTOR
- Disconnect: Passenger Seat Motor Assembly C3015
- Measure the voltage between passenger seat motor assembly C3015-6, circuit 984 (YE/LB) and C3015-5 circuit 985 (RD/LB), harness side, while pushing the passenger seat control rear height switch up and down.
- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts when the seat control switch rear height adjustment is in the up position, greater than negative (-) 10 volts in the down position and 0 volt in the neutral position?
- YES : INSTALL a new passenger seat track assembly. TEST the system for normal operation. DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from passenger seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3202. CONNECT passenger seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3202. REPOWER the supplemental restraint system (SRS). REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM article.
- NO : Go to E13.
- E13 CHECK CIRCUIT 984 (YE/LB) FOR AN OPEN
- Disconnect: Passenger Seat Control Switch C330
- Measure the resistance between passenger seat control switch C330-2, circuit 984 (YE/LB), harness side and passenger seat motor assembly C3015-6, circuit 984 (YE/LB), harness side.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
- YES : Go to E14.
- NO : REPAIR circuit 984 (YE/LB). TEST the system for normal operation. DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from passenger seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3202. CONNECT passenger seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3202. REPOWER the supplemental restraint system (SRS). REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM article.
- E14 CHECK CIRCUIT 985 (RD/LB) FOR AN OPEN
- Measure the resistance between passenger seat control switch C330-8, circuit 985 (RD/LB), harness side and passenger seat motor assembly C3015-5, circuit 985 (RD/LB), harness side.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
- YES : INSTALL a new passenger seat control switch. TEST the system for normal operation. DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from passenger seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3202. CONNECT passenger seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3202. REPOWER the supplemental restraint system (SRS). REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM article.
- NO : REPAIR circuit 985 (RD/LB). TEST the system for normal operation. DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from passenger seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3202. CONNECT passenger seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3202. - E15 CHECK THE VOLTAGE TO THE FRONT HEIGHT MOTOR
- Disconnect: Passenger Seat Motor Assembly C3015
- Measure the voltage between passenger seat motor assembly C3015-2, circuit 988 (YE/LG) and C3015-3, circuit 989 (RD/LG), harness side, while pushing the passenger seat control switch front height adjustment up and down.
- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts when the seat control switch front height adjustment is in the up position, greater than negative (-) 10 volts in the down position and 0 volt in the neutral position?
- YES : INSTALL a new passenger seat track assembly. TEST the system for normal operation. DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from passenger seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3202. CONNECT passenger seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3202. REPOWER the supplemental restraint system (SRS). REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM article.
- NO : Go to E16.
- E16 CHECK CIRCUIT 988 (YE/LG) FOR AN OPEN
- Disconnect: Passenger Seat Control Switch C330
- Measure the resistance between passenger seat control switch C330-6, circuit 988 (YE/LG), harness side and passenger seat motor assembly C3015-2, circuit 988 (YE/LG), harness side.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
- YES : Go to E17.
- NO : REPAIR circuit 988 (YE/LG). TEST the system for normal operation. DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from passenger seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3202. CONNECT passenger seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3202. REPOWER the supplemental restraint system (SRS). REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM article.
- E17 CHECK CIRCUIT 989 (RD/LG) FOR AN OPEN
- Measure the resistance between passenger seat control switch C330-4, circuit 989 (RD/LG), harness side and passenger seat motor assembly C3015-3, circuit 989 (RD/LG), harness side.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
- YES : INSTALL a new passenger seat control switch. TEST the system for normal operation. DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from passenger seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3202. CONNECT passenger seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3202. REPOWER the supplemental restraint system (SRS). REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM article.
- NO : REPAIR circuit 989 (RD/LG). TEST the system for normal operation. DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. - E18 CHECK THE VOLTAGE TO THE FORWARD/REARWARD MOTOR
- Disconnect: Passenger Seat Motor Assembly C3015
- Measure the voltage between passenger seat motor assembly C3015-4, circuit 987 (RD/WH) and C3015-1, circuit 986 (YE/WH), harness side, while pushing the passenger seat control switch forward and rearward.
- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts when the seat control switch is in the forward position, greater than negative (-) 10 volts in the rearward position and 0 volt in the neutral position?
- YES : INSTALL a new passenger seat track assembly. TEST the system for normal operation. DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from passenger seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3202. CONNECT passenger seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3202. REPOWER the supplemental restraint system (SRS). REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM article.
- NO : Go to E19.
- E19 CHECK CIRCUIT 987 (RD/WH) FOR AN OPEN
- Disconnect: Passenger Seat Control Switch C330
- Measure the resistance between passenger seat control switch C330-3, circuit 987 (RD/WH), harness side and passenger seat motor assembly C3015-4, circuit 987 (RD/WH), harness side.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
- YES : Go to E20.
- NO : REPAIR circuit 987 (RD/WH). TEST the system for normal operation. DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from passenger seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3202. CONNECT passenger seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3202. REPOWER the supplemental restraint system (SRS). REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM article.
- E20 CHECK CIRCUIT 986 (YE/WH) FOR AN OPEN
- Measure the resistance between passenger seat control switch 330-5, circuit 986 (YE/WH), harness side and passenger seat motor assembly 3015-1, circuit 986 (YE/WH), harness side.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
- YES : INSTALL a new passenger seat control switch. TEST the system for normal operation. DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from passenger seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3202. CONNECT passenger seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3202. REPOWER the supplemental restraint system (SRS). REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM article.
- NO : REPAIR circuit 986 (YE/WH). TEST the system for normal operation. DISCONNECT the battery ground cable.
