Pinpoint Test H: The Defrost System Will Not Shut Off Automatically

  1. H1 CHECK IC DTCs 
    • Refer to the IC self-test DTCs retrieved during the inspection and verification.
    • Are any DTCs present? 
    1. YES  : For B1345, go to  H5.
    2. For all other DTCs, REFER to the Master DTC Chart in MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES article.
    3. NO  : Go to  H2.
  2. H2 CHECK CIRCUIT 186 (BN/LB) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE 
    • Disconnect: Heated Rear Window Relay
    • Key in ON position.
    • Is the rear window defrost ON? 
    1. YES  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. NO  : Go to  H3.
  3. H3 CHECK THE HEATED REAR WINDOW RELAY 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Measure the resistance between heated rear window relay socket pin 85, circuit 1009 (OG/YE) harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms? 
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new heated rear window relay. TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. NO  : Go to  H4.
  4. H4 CHECK THE IC - CIRCUIT 1009 (OG/YE) 
    • Disconnect: IC C220b
    • Measure the resistance between heated rear window relay socket pin 85, circuit 1009 (OG/YE) harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms? 
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new IC. REFER to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER article. TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. NO  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  5. H5 CHECK THE IC - CIRCUIT 1010 (DB/OG) 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: IC C220a
    • Measure the resistance between IC C220a-8, circuit 1010 (DB/OG) harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms? 
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new IC. REFER to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER article. TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. NO  : Go to  H6.
  6. H6 CHECK THE IC - CIRCUIT 1010 (DB/OG) 
    • Disconnect: HVAC Module - Electronic Automatic Temperature Control (EATC) C228a or HVAC Module - Electronic Manual Temperature Control (EMTC) C294a
    • Measure the resistance between IC C220a-8, circuit 1010 (DB/OG) harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms? 
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new HVAC module - EATC or HVAC module - EMTC. REFER to CLIMATE CONTROL article. TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. NO  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
