DTC P1436: - A/C Evaporator Air Temperature Circuit Low

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 32 other vehicles, including the 2009 Mercury Mountaineer, 2009 Mercury Milan, 2009 Mercury Mariner, 2009 Mercury Grand Marquis, and 2009 Lincoln Town Car. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
DTC P1436: - A/C EVAPORATOR AIR TEMPERATURE CIRCUIT LOW

Description:  Indicates the air conditioning evaporator temperature (ACET) signal input was less than the self-test minimum. The self-test minimum is 0.13 volt.
Possible Causes:
  • ACET circuit short to ground or SIG RTN
  • Damaged ACET sensor
Diagnostic Aids:  The powertrain control module (PCM) sources a low current 5 volt reference on the ACET circuit (this voltage can be measured with the sensor disconnected). As the A/C evaporator air temperature changes, the ACET circuit resistance to SIG RTN (ground) changes (which changes the voltage the PCM detects). When the ACET signal is detected below the self-test minimum, check for shorts to SIG RTN or ground which would pull the voltage low.
