Pinpoint Test D: DTCs B299F and B29A9 - Suppressor Left/Right Circuit Open - Loop #2
Refer to appropriate SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article, Police Option for schematic and connector information.
Normal Operation
The fire suppression system module (FSSM) checks all of the fire suppressor circuits for faults. If the FSSM detects an open on the LH fire suppressor squib 2 circuits, it stores DTC B299F in continuous memory and illuminates the fire suppression system indicator. If the FSSM detects an open on the RH fire suppressor squib 2 circuits, it stores DTC B29A9 in continuous memory and illuminates the fire suppression system indicator.
DTC B299F (Suppressor Left Circuit Open - Loop #2) - sets when the FSSM detects an open on the left fire suppressor squib 2 circuits 2328 (OG) and 2329 (DG). This DTC will cause the fire suppression system indicator to illuminate.
DTC B29A9 (Suppressor Right Circuit Open - Loop #2) - sets when the FSSM detects an open on the right fire suppressor squib 2 circuits 2326 (LG) and 2327 (BK/WH). This DTC will cause the fire suppression system indicator to illuminate.
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- Wiring, terminals or connectors
- RH fire suppressor
- LH fire suppressor
- FSSM
PINPOINT TEST D: DTCs B299F AND B29A9 - SUPPRESSOR LEFT/RIGHT CIRCUIT OPEN - LOOP #2
- D1 CHECK FOR ON-DEMAND DTCs OR CONTINUOUS MEMORY DTCs
- Carry out the FSSM self-test.
- Were DTCs B299F or B29A9 retrieved as on-demand DTCs during the self-test?
- YES : Go to D2.
- NO : CHECK for causes of the intermittent fault. ATTEMPT to recreate the hard fault by flexing the wire harness and cycling the key in the ignition lock cylinder frequently. REPEAT the self-test.
- D2 CHECK THE FSSM
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect the battery. Refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING & CABLES article.
- Wait approximately 60 seconds to allow the fire suppression system backup power supply to deplete.
- Disconnect: FSSM C3281b
- Connect the fire suppression system diagnostic tool to the FSSM C3281b connector, component side.
- Connect the battery.
- Carry out the FSSM self-test.
- Were DTCs B29A3 and B29AD retrieved as on-demand DTCs during the self-test?
WARNING: To reduce the risk of accidental deployment, do not use any memory saver devices when depowering the fire suppression system. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury.NOTE: DTCs B29A3 and B29AD are expected to be retrieved when the self-test is performed with the fire suppression diagnostic tool connected into the FSSM C3281b connector. These DTCs can be cleared once all the fire suppression connections are restored. If DTCs B29A3 or B29AD are retrieved with the diagnostic tool disconnected, refer to the FIRE SUPPRESSION SYSTEM MODULE (FSSM) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE INDEX .- YES : DISCONNECT the battery. WAIT 60 seconds for the fire suppression system backup power supply to deplete. DISCONNECT the fire suppression system diagnostic tool. CONNECT the FSSM C3281b. CONNECT the battery. CLEAR DTCs B29A3 and B29AD. Go to D3.
- NO : INSTALL a new FSSM. REFER to Fire Suppression System Module (FSSM) . Go to D4.
- D3 CHECK THE FIRE SUPPRESSORS
- Disconnect the battery.
- Wait approximately 60 seconds to allow the fire suppression system backup power supply to deplete.
- Disconnect: Suspect Fire Suppressor
- Connect the fire suppression system diagnostic tool to the suspect fire suppressor, harness side.
- Connect the battery.
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: Self-TestNOTE: DTCs B299E and B29A3 are expected to be retrieved when the self-test is performed with the fire suppression diagnostic tool connected into the LH Fire Suppressor C4317. DTCs B29AD and B29A8 are expected to be retrieved when the self-test is performed with the fire suppression diagnostic tool connected into the RH Fire Suppressor C4316. These DTCs can be cleared once all the fire suppression connections are restored. If DTCs B299E, B29A3, B29AD, or B29A8 are retrieved with the diagnostic tool disconnected, refer to the FIRE SUPPRESSION SYSTEM MODULE (FSSM) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE INDEX .
- Were DTCs B29A8 or B299E retrieved as on-demand DTCs during the self-test?
WARNING: To reduce the risk of accidental deployment, do not use any memory saver devices when depowering the fire suppression system. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury.- YES
: If DTC B29A9 was retrieved in Step D1, INSTALL a new RH fire suppressor. REFER to Fire Suppressor . Go to D4.
If DTC B299F was retrieved in Step D1, INSTALL a new LH fire suppressor. REFER to Fire Suppressor . Go to D4.
- NO : INSTALL a new fire suppression system harness. Go to D4.
- D4 CHECK FOR ADDITIONAL DTCs
- Refer to the continuous memory DTCs recorded during Step D1.
- Were any continuous memory DTCs retrieved during Step D1?
- YES : REFER to the FIRE SUPPRESSION SYSTEM MODULE (FSSM) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE INDEX .
- NO : CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
