Removal And Installation

NOTE: During engine repair procedures, cleanliness is extremely important. Any foreign material, including any material created while cleaning gasket surfaces, that enters the oil passages, coolant passages or the oil pan, can cause engine failure.
  1. Remove the RH or LH valve cover. For additional information, refer to Valve Cover - RH  or Valve Cover - LH .
  2. NOTE: If the engine is difficult to rotate while positioning the piston to the bottom of the cylinder, remove the spark plugs.
  3. Position the camshaft lobe at base circle.
  4. NOTE: If the roller followers are to be reinstalled, they must be installed in their original positions. Mark the roller followers for installation into their original locations. Failure to follow these instructions may result in engine damage.
  5. Using the Valve Spring Compressor, compress the valve spring and remove the roller follower.

  7. Repeat the previous 2 steps to remove each of the roller followers.
  8. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
    • Lubricate each of the roller followers with clean engine oil prior to installation.
